courtyard curvahedra sculpture.

The "Courtyard Curvahedra," a 12-foot diameter steel sculpture fabricated by modus shop, is the result of a collaborative design effort of students and professors at the University of Arkansas. Edmund Harriss, clinical assistant professor of mathematics, along with his colleagues Emily Baker, assistant professor of architecture, and Carl Smith, professor of landscape architecture, worked with students from different fields in an Honors College seminar course to explore ways to activate underused spaces.
The design team worked with modus shop fabricators to develop the construction, assembly, and installation process. The resulting piece uses mathematical concepts to employ two-dimensional shapes to create a three-dimensional sculpture, presenting students and staff with an intriguing place for rest and reflection.
The sculpture was dedicated in the fall of 2021 and is a gift from G. David and Jane B. Gearhart. Find out more about the "Courtyard Curvahedra" in this University of Arkansas Short Takes video.
