Matthew Scott, AIA

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Matthew developed a great appreciation for architecture through his travels during his gap year after high school. During that year, he had the opportunity to travel to places in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and South America. He became fascinated by the rich and diverse architectural roots that helped define the cultures of people that he encountered. He chose to study architecture after seeing its distinct impact on people around the world.

Matthew's interest in architecture is focused on the detail. He believes the detail’s essential role is to create the structure of the building, and that a thoughtful detail will provide resolution to the built environment. The joint requires acute attention to detail, but as one solution performs well in one building, it may fail in another. Matthew strives to correlate the parti of a design to be seen in all of the building’s connections.

Matthew’s time at the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design fostered an enthusiasm for model making and woodworking. His time in the workshops helped him develop skills with CNC machining and 3D printing, as well as to conduct material studies for research for the Fay Jones School. He’s never afraid to try new processes and continues to strive to build skills in other forms of making.
